When designing and building an attic conversion, it’s worth considering exactly how you want to use the space. For example, if you don’t need extra head height, roof lights will be a more cost effective option.
Getting the staircase right
The best attic conversions start with a staircase that connects the rest of the house to the new room upstairs. We ordered bespoke cast iron spindles made to match the existing ones and went on the hunt for a reclaimed handrail. The result is a seamless addition that looks like it was always there.
Let light in
The ceiling height in this attic was surprisingly high so roof lights were the best option. We went as big and low as possible to flood the space with light and connect to the outside too. And extra bonus points for the views to Arthur’s Seat, the Forth of Firth and the Castle!
Walk in shower and green tile
Attic bathrooms can appear pokey due to the low ceiling so focal points such as lit niches styled with artefacts, draw the eye away from that.
For this project we wanted to create a hotel vibe to complement the new guest bedroom so we went big on the walk in shower, introducing colour with handmade green tiles. This bathroom always gets a great reaction.
